Educational actions

The Tara Ocean Foundation’s pedagogical platform is at the service of education for sustainable development and science in schools. The Foundation’s resources are co-designed with the Ministry of National Education to be consistent with official programs.

Tara accompanies you

Teacher training

Drawing on the resources of the Tara Ocean Foundation, teachers contextualize scientific contents and environmental issues in their classroom. They develop a challenging pedagogy for young people in support of the scientific and human adventure on board the schooner and in research laboratories.

Teaching resources

Many and varied sources of inspiration and tools are available to teachers: experiments to be performed in the classroom, educational material, scientific documentaries on Tara's main research topics (biodiversity, climate, plastic pollution), live video-conferences with scientists and educational activities that can be a common thread throughout the year.

Awareness-raising actions

The Tara Ocean Foundation works towards bringing new perspectives to all on this blue immensity. Building on the work of the scientists and artists in residence during the schooner's missions, innovative awareness-raising tools and meeting moments are proposed to allow the general public to explore the Ocean from a new angle in order to understand why it is the key to life on Earth.

By working on various tools, we propose an aesthetic, educational and non-alarming approach to the topics while taking a fresh look at the Ocean.

From rivers to the ocean, the itinerary of a harmful plastic

France Culture records the meetings of minds of two guests from different backgrounds, but with complementary concerns: the writer and academician Erik Orsenna, one of the sponsors of the Tara Ocean Foundation, and the oceanographer and biologist Gilles Boeuf, president of the scientific council of the French agency for biodiversity, and professor at the Sorbonne.

À l’écoute de l’Océan

The Tara Ocean Foundation has been carrying out artistic residencies since Tara’s first mission. Each expedition is the opportunity to cross perspectives between artists, scientists and sailors who, together, observe and re-write, according to their sensitivity and imagination, the richness of the Ocean. So far, more than 50 artists have relayed on board Tara.

Advocacy work

The advocacy work carried out by the Foundation is essential to ensure that the science produced on board and in partner laboratories finds continuity in society, helps guide policymakers, and translates into concrete and appropriate actions. The Foundation continuously fosters relations between research and policy around 3 issues: plastic pollution, climate and biodiversity.
